A few things we’re great at
Come and see why we’ve been around for over 100 years!
Partnership
Many two-point parishes are joined together out of necessity. But we have found our partnership to be a gift. We don’t just share a pastor, we share in ministry and worship together. Our members attend both churches, help out at each other’s fundraisers, and love one another as Christ loved us. This is a place where you can become a part of not just one but two communities of faith.
sharing jesus
Our worship is centered on Jesus Christ. We read from his gospels, preach his promises, and share his sacraments in order to grow in faith in him. Our worship utilizes methods of sharing Jesus that have been successful for centuries. Discovering what it is to have faith in him who “loved us and gave himself up for us” (Eph. 5:2) is our highest aim. Each week you will be saturated with the message of the love of Jesus.
fellowship
Many of our members form deep relationships with one another. Our fellowship hour after worship can sometimes last longer than the worship because we value getting to know and relate to one another. Being a small community allows us to notice one another on a level deeper. For people newer to our area, this is the perfect place to meet neighbors who will care for you. This is a place where you can find and become a part of a “church family”.
a community church
Love of neighbor begins with our local community and moves to the ends of the earth. Along with offering opportunities to serve ministries and missions all over, this parish is very connected to our community. Whether it is offering quilts to local fundraisers or providing great community events like our Lutefisk Supper at Utica or our Block Party in Mt. Sterling, you can make a difference through us.
About us
We are two congregations that worship together, alternating our worship location each Sunday between Mt. Sterling Lutheran (located in Mt. Sterling, WI at the intersection of 5th and Division) and Utica Lutheran (located along State Highway 27 between the towns of Mt. Sterling and Fairview).
We are member churches of the La Crosse Area Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA).
We believe in one God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit as confessed the three ecumenical creeds.
The Bible is the inspired Word of God and the source and norm for our faith and life. Each week we gather to hear from the Word as it is read and preached.
We proclaim that we are justified by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone in accord with the message of the apostles and witnessed to in the Lutheran Confessions.
Our worship uses a formal liturgy that go back centuries, follows the appointed readings and seasons of the Revised Common Lectionary, sings hymns both time tested and new, and involves our collective voices harnessed as one in prayer, praise, and proclamation.
We share the Sacrament of Baptism with people of all ages in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We celebrate the Sacrament of Communion weekly where we can receive in, with, and under the bread and wine the body and blood of Jesus. Our communion table is open to all baptized believers.
After worship we share time in fellowship with one another. This fellowship often continues during with week with bible studies, men’s group, WELCA circles, and individual members offering one another mutual support.
